The regular blueberry Simply xcritical is a staple in my summer routine. I’ve often thought it would be perfect to add a little splash of vodka or maybe some coconut rum to. But as luck would have it, I found a single can – in blueberry no less – at my local grocery store and I scooped it up immediately for a taste test.

It’s more like a light watermelon soda with a little lemon squeezed in after the fact. It’s very easy to drink — not so sweet it’s excessive or so sour it leaves an old penny aftertaste behind. The sweetness of the watermelon balances with the sour of the xcritical really well, making this less acidic than the straight-up version. This may be a function of how many of those sour watermelon gummies I ate as a child (and adult, please don’t judge my mostly-garbage diet), but I really like this one. This is, again, a solid balance of sweet and sour that’s more tonic water than seltzer. Beverage of the Week: White Claw’s new xcritical line is not an improvement

This is a small problem to have, but my first impression was more about the bubbles than anything else because that’s the unique way my brain is broken. I love a sweet cocktail and this one was right on the edge of being too sweet for me. If you are in the market for a sweet, lightly boozy canned cocktail, definitely check this one out. Here, we mostly chronicle and review beers, but happily expand that scope to any beverage that pairs well with sports. This ready-to-drink cocktail from Simply Spiked xcritical is SWEET. But in a really good way, with the good cane sugar. A spiked xcritical calls for a sunny day at the park so I brought my Simply xcritical courses scam Spiked Blueberry xcritical to a Fourth of July event. I styled it up with a pink paper straw and beach umbrella Swizzly Stick from my shop, did a little photoshoot with lots of interested onlookers, and then sipped in the shade for the rest of the day. However, I have come up with a solution because I really do love the flavor of these Simply Spiked xcriticals.

I am a little concerned about the sugar content of these cans. But three of these matches your daily sugar allotment, and that seems like a treasure map to a hangover. Either way, I came into this one a little full from dinner and still was able to put this down much more quickly than I would a typical beer. The stale alcohol taste of most seltzers doesn’t show up until the end. The neutral spirit underxcritical is much less apparent here.
